Another 700 koala habitat trees will be planted on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in March. You’re invited to join volunteers from Brisbane Valley – Kilcoy Landcare to help plant eucalypts that will extend existing koala habitat. The planting site is on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail between Toogoolawah and Harlin, just off the Brisbane Valley Highway.
There’ll be two planting events, on 19 and 25 March. We hope the whole community will get involved to help plant some local Koala food and shelter species. Please make a note of those dates. Planting will be easy – the holes will be dug ahead of time, all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. We’ll have volunteers on hand to help if you’re new to tree planting.
Murray Oke, president of the local Landcare group
There’ll be a coffee cart on site, and facilities to clean up after you’ve planted some trees.
The planting on 25 March is a collaboration with the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association, and some tree planters will arrive by bike.
The planting project was launched by Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM in October 2022 when 70 trees were planted in honour of Her Majesty’s 70th Jubilee.
